Rory Mcllroy missed on the Irish Open again but has the rain and wind to blame

Rory Mcllroy missed on the Irish Open again but has the rain and wind to blame

Harrington who is a three time major champion on Wednesday predicted that Sunday would see an Irish player lift the trophy and the most likely contender would be Mcllroy.

Mcllroy only added 71 to his 80 opening at the Windswept Royal County down. Harrington was left a shot off the lead shared by English pair Chris Wood and Tyrrell Hattton, Richie Ramsay from Scotland, Bernd Wiesberger from Austria and Soren Kjeldsen from Denmark.

Mcllroy followed up his victory with a 7-shot victory in the WGC-Cadillac Match play at the Wells Fargo Championship. He missed the cut in defending his BMW PGA Championship title at Wentworth. He pointed out that rain, wind and the links to golf did not work to his best.

This 26 year-old golfer thought he would make a cut when he made his first birdie of the week and the 7th with another on the 12th to thin a pitch on the 15th and 3-putt for a double bogey.

He said that he did his best but he could not make a proper run on the holes. He had made a promise of making a donation to his foundation for the prize money he had won but this will not materialize which leaves him with a lot to work on.

He acknowledges that the support is amazing but it will be sad because they will not see him playing. So, if you were to be on Mcllroy, you should wait for two weeks until the US open starts.

After the interview with the media, Mcllroy was in his car heading back home to Hollywood but his duties as the host to the tournament prevent him from advancing to Florida. He said that this was not an excuse for him.

Visa Threatens to have their sponsorship deal with FIFA terminated

Visa has told FIFA that they might end their sponsorship if the soccer’s governing body will no act to get back their reputation after senior officials were got arrested on charges of corruption.

As sponsors went on to show their concern on this issue, Visa’s statement was the strongest. Visa became a partner to FIFA in 2007 and they had recently extended their partnership to 2022. Customers to brands associated with FIFA took to social media threatening to boycott.

Visa said that this was a great disappointment and that FIFA should make swift moves and immediate actions in addressing the issues that are transpiring within the organisation. They pointed out that FIFA should start by building a culture which has strong ethical practises but when it fails to do this, they will have no option but reassess their sponsorship.

The US prosecutors issued an indictment on Wednesday which accused 9 of the officials from FIFA. The indictments included those of 5 sports media and promotions officials involving $150 million in a span of over 24 years.

This indictment included a statement indicating that an apparel company offered to pay $160 million in 1996 for over 10 years as long as they remained the exclusive footwear, accessories and equipment supplier for the Brazilian team. Even though the indictment did not state the company, this might be Nike Inc which is the official sponsors of the Brazilian national team. When Nike was called upon to comment on this, they said that they believe in fair play and transparency in sports and in business. They oppose any kind of manipulation and bribery and are cooperating and will continue to do so until the whole mystery is unravelled.

In November last years, Sony and Emirates Airlines announced that they would not renew their deals with FIFA. Qatar Airways and Samsung are said to be on talks to replace them. Emirates and Sony were the main 6 partners that together paid $177 million in 2014 to access right in advertising in the World Cup stadiums, as well as, use their FIFA trademark.

A source that is familiar to Sony’s decision said that one of the reasons to their withdrawal was suspected corruption but the major issue was on the high cost on the sponsorship deal.

Clinics warn of dramatic increase in the number of people addicted to online gambling

Clinics warn of dramatic increase in the number of people addicted to online gambling

Research revealed that teenagers have debts accruing to more than $30,000 all from online betting on sports. The number of people who are seeking for help in 3 years has grown by 100%. These are findings that have been released by the Gambling Treatment Clinic at The University of Sydney.

The operator at the treatment centre pointed out that many of their patients are addicts to poker machines but most of them now are men in their youths who are troubled by online betting.

One of the originating influencers would be the popular sporting event in Australia and Wednesday night’s game where millions of people watch it. The kind of marketing going around for the online sports betting is to blame for the growth in the quantity of youths who are getting into additions related to gambling. The psychologist at the Gambling Treatment Clinic of The University of Sydney; Dr. Christopher Hunt who has served in the capacity for 8 years said that when he started out, he did not see patients in the age bracket of 18 to 25 years but they have seen a dramatic growth in the past 3 to 4 years. He says that the number has doubled and might triple if no control is taken. He says that in 2012, they have 23 patients and last year they accommodated 50.

He says that the huge number is of young men. He attributes this to the notion sports betting is the cream of online gambling and this is what young men wish to be associated with.

It’s a false belief that you would make money from your sports knowledge through sports betting

Dr. Hunt said that he was convinced that the increase in the promotion of online gambling is the cause to the rise in the fast and easy access to betting online via mobile devices. No tangible evidence can be tied to this claims but he says that the increase in advertisement of gambling activities grew the number of patients they had in their clinic.

The statement that you could make your sporting knowledge earn you money and make you a winner is a hoax and should be stopped. All it will do is land more and more people into gambling problems.

Wrong Pit Call costs Hamilton

Wrong Pit Call costs Hamilton

Hamilton says that it was a collective decision for him and his team mates to pit as they thought that their rivals had also pitted.

Lewis Hamilton says that he thought Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg were also making pit stop for new tyres in the closing stage of the Monaco GP. This was the major cause for his loss in the Monaco GP.

This formula 1 champion had a clear advantage at the end of the field but making a pit with 13 laps for him to go was a mistake. Hamilton said that a look at one of the side screens on the track made him think that his rivals were also making a pit stop. He said that he relies on the team and when he saw a screen out, he thought that the other racers were also making a stop.

On the other hand, he could not see the guys behind him which made him think that they were also making a pit. His team had asked him to stay out but he thought that his tyres would fall in temperature; they said that he should pit and he was confident that other racers had also made a pit.

Even though Hamilton says he has not contacted the strategists, his team also shoulders the blame as they had miscalculated the gap between Hamilton and the other racers.

Lewis had a flawless drive and made delivery to a perfect weekend with a masterful race and a pole lap. There is not much to this loss but congratulate him for the grace he handled the situation with.

Hamilton came in third behind Rosberg and Vettel even though he had a faster and fresher car; he was unable to go past the Ferrari driver. Overtaking on Monaco is difficult but Ted Kravitz would not comprehend as to why he gave up his track position.

Kravitz said that even if Vettel had made a stop, Mercedes would still have the track position. He believes that track position it king and even when on quicker tyres, Vettel would not be in a position to go past like Hamilton was unable.

Sport teams are now looking for alternative ways to raise money

Sport teams are now looking for alternative ways to raise money

With UK banks not lending, sports have to be creative on their financial developments. New research from the University of Cambridge proposes that there is a lot of money that is yet to be utilized from supporters.

One scholar who studies alternative finance at Cambridge Judge Business School reported that it would be challenging for sports franchise to access traditional bank loans. A reason as to why banks will not offer a loan to a sports team is because they believe that there is a reputational risk. How does this play along? They say that when you lend to a club and things go wrong, then there will be a problem with the team’s fan base.

A way to raise funds that is becoming popular is crowd funding through the internet and in mini bonds. These are bonds for retail and cannot be resold and are on offer in minimal amounts to the direct clients.

One unique bond of its kind is the £25 million mini bond that was launched by the Jockey Club in 2013. This bond was used in the financing of a new stand at the Cheltenham race course. This is the first bond of its kind to be seen in the British sports world.

Research on this bond revealed that almost all the holders of the bond were fans of Horse racing and that their average age was over 60 years. One amusing thing is that they were diverting their idle money from building societies’ accounts. They got their attraction from the 4.75% interest rate and an additional 3% that was give back through loyalty points which would be offered back on tickets, drinks and food at the racecourses.

One thing that’s important about this Jockey Club is that they have managed to alter the psychological relationship they have with their fans. They have new experiences and they are now in need of more.

Paul Fisher who is the managing director to the Jockey Club Racecourses mentioned in a statement that the loyalty scheme has been a success; even though the interest rates earned from borrowing in the banks might have fallen. With this, it seems that the club would still use mini bonds to develop more courses in the future.

Another club that has followed in the Jockey Club’s footsteps is the Lancashire County Cricket Club that used similar tactics last November to earn themselves 3 million from a mini bond that earned the investors 5% interest rates and 2% on loyalty points. Wasps Rugby Club also sold out a £35 million retail bond after few days of introduction.

This is one interesting way for the clubs to raise money for their development. This shows that you could not only bet on your favourite clubs but you have the chance to invest in the clubs and earn guaranteed money in terms of interest rates and loyalty points bonuses.
