The signing of Josh Shaw by Gloucestershire from Yorkshire has been finalized on a season-long loan.Shaw , who is 20 years of age is a right arm seamer and passed through the system of Headingley Academy, made his senior debut last summer by playing two matches in the NatWest T20 Blast Competition.

It is expected that Shaw will be playing in all the three formats for Gloucestershire and he is looking forward to having a place in Richard Dawson’s senior team as the head coach.

Shaw, who represented England under 19s in 2014 said, “ This is going to a great opportunity for me to develop my career into being a professional cricketer.”

“It is my hope that I may once again work with Richard Dawson who trained me at Yorkshire a few years ago before he was moved to Gloucestershire.” He added.

MartynMoxon, the Director of cricket at Yorkshire said, “ Shaw needs to play against quality opposition in the three formats. Gloucestershire is an advanced club and Richard Dawson is converting them into being a strong unit.”

“ They have proved their proficiency by winning the Royal London One Day cup final in the previous season. It is only fair that Shaw play his cricket at such a level.”

Dawson, the head coach of Gloucestershire added by saying, “ It is an honor to have Josh from Yorkshire for a season-long loan. He is a bowler with great potential and this will make our squad competitive at the same time giving him an opportunity to develop his game in the different formats.”

Will Brown, who is the chief executive of Gloucestershire said , “Having Josh on our team for the 2016 seasons represents another great signing for us and we are glad to have him in the club.”

Brent Hogan, the former head of Greyhound Racing NSW isproviding evidence at the special commission of Inquiry in the next two days concerning the high rates of Greyhound injuries and poor welfare standards in the industry. The Inquiry already heard that the Officials played down the injuries in order to avoid negative publicity and no deaths were reported.

Mr Hogan stepped down as Greyhound’s Racing NSW CEO last year due to the wake of Four Corners on live baiting.

An email was sent to Commissioner MicaherMcHugh from the chief steward of GRNSW which urged the officials to downplay the injuries of the dogs in post-race events to avoid negativity. The mail suggested that a broken leg can be referred to as an injured leg.

According to the suggested policy, if a dog was put down after a race, it is only the injury that will be reported and not the death itself. As such, this policy misled the public and therefore policy change was necessary.

Mr Hogan told the commission that the change of policy was intended only to make it easier for steward’s report and make the language consistent.

According to the commissioner, it appears to him that the policy was made deliberately to excite the interest of animal welfare groups.

“ Do you agree that this policy mislead the public?” the commissioner asked.

Mr Hogan replied, “Looking back to it, Yes.”

The commission has previously been told that up to 17,000 dogs were not allowed to race because they were not good enough. In fact, every month, over 600 greyhounds are reported to be injured in Australia, suffering from different and serious bone fractures as well as musculoskeletal injuries.
